Told in the first person by private John Bartle on his tour of duty in Iraq, the story shifts from training before his deployment to time spent in Iraq and his homecoming and return to life away from war. It’s a psychological journey and provides the state of mind of the man who went through it. Even in the violent action the author tells the entire story “quietly”. It’s an engrossing read and is highly recommended.
